The Government Shall be Upon His Shoulder

I was reflecting this morning on these scripture and my mind began to ponder the principles of government. Some governments are based on principles of democracy yet others are based on other principles including a monarchy.

One of the most referenced documents, for which I am grateful, is the US constitution which begins with:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

As leaders, we must understand that every government or organization has a constitution – guiding principles. These principles may be called : Mission statements, values statements, vision statements, or charters. Whatever the name, usually, there is a common woven thread that each organization is a fragile and precious “experiment” created on a foundation of certain ideals with a vision of desired outcomes.

For the government/kingdom of Christ, scripture declares to us:

⁃ “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace. [Isa. 25:1; 40:9-11; Matt. 28:18; Luke 2:11.]

⁃ “…The very Stone which the builders rejected and threw away has become the Cornerstone; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? [Ps. 118:22, 23.] Matthew 21:42 AMPC

⁃ “And the Lord shall be King over all the earth; in that day the Lord shall be one [in the recognition and worship of men] and His name one.” Zechariah 14:9 AMPC

⁃ “…All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.”Matthew 28:18 AMPC

⁃ “And there was given Him [the Messiah] dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and His kingdom is one which shall not be destroyed. [Rev. 5:1-10.]”. Daniel 7:14 AMPC

⁃ “[The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, In Whom we have our redemption through His blood, [which means] the forgiveness of our sins. [Now] He is the exact likeness of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible]; He is the Firstborn of all creation. For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him.”Colossians 1:13-16 AMPC

As Citizens of His Kingdom, let us pray therefore: “Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9-10 AMPC. Amen.
