Indifferent to God

I was reflecting on this scripture this morning and the thought of how we, as leaders, must guard our hearts and minds from being desensitized.

There are so many wars and cultural battles today that can create and sustain a spirit of unforgiveness.

We can easily get distracted and stop communing with the Holy Spirit – find ourselves drifting and indifferent (lack of interest, concern, or sympathy) toward the things of God.

Scripture describes it as:

“I know your [record of] works and what you are doing; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth!”

Revelation 3:15-16 AMPC

But God also gives us an action plan for restoration:

“My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you. Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.

Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright.

Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil.”

Proverbs 4:20-27 AMPC

God desires that we dwell in him. Scripture says:

“Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.

I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit.

However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.

If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

When you bear (produce) much fruit, My Father is honored and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine.” John 15:4-8 AMPC

In closing, Gods illustrates His never ending love in the King Nebuchadnezzar’s story.

“Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you; break off your sins and show the reality of your repentance by righteousness (right standing with God and moral and spiritual rectitude and rightness in every area and relation) and liberate yourself from your iniquities by showing mercy and loving-kindness to the poor and oppressed, that [if the king will repent] there may possibly be a continuance and lengthening of your peace and tranquility and a healing of your error.” Daniel 4:27 AMPC

Our responsibility is to be faithful to confess our sins when we error:

“If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 AMPC

the people were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, [they were indifferent to God] until the day that Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

It was the same as it was in the days of Lot. People were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building [carrying on business as usual, without regard for their sins];

but on the [very] day that Lot left Sodom it rained fire and brimstone (burning sulfur) from heaven and destroyed them all.”

Holy Spirit

I was reading these scriptures and was reflecting on the Holy Spirit and how vital it is to our success and growth as a believer and as a leader.

It is and will be the most powerful influence on our lives as we transform daily to be like Christ.

It is free to all who simply ask and pursue it as the scripture reminds us “how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!” Amen

There are difficult days ahead as we pursue, subdue, take authority over, dominate and occupy our designated areas of responsibility.

We need and will continue to need the guidance, wisdom and insights that can only be revealed to us by the spirit.

Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit is our teacher :

“But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.” John 14:26 AMP

The Holy Spirit guides us:

“But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future]. He will glorify and honor Me, because He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Because of this I said that He [the Spirit] will take from what is Mine and will reveal it to you.” John 16:13-15 AMP

The Holy Spirit encourages us:

“So the church throughout Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace [without persecution], being built up [in wisdom, virtue, and faith]; and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort and encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it continued to grow [in numbers].”

Acts 9:31 AMP

The Holy Spirit empowers us:

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”

2 Timothy 1:7 AMP

With all these benefits and more available , there is a question before us all that is found in Acts 19:

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed [in Jesus as the Christ]?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”” Acts 19:2 AMP

It is available and free today to us all if we just ask. Amen

It is my prayer that as we continue to ask for the holy spirit to be manifested in us, to lead and to guide us in our lives:

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.” Romans 15:13 AMP

For everyone who keeps on asking [persistently], receives; and he who keeps on seeking [persistently], finds; and to him who keeps on knocking [persistently], the door will be opened.

What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish?

Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

If you, then, being evil [that is, sinful by nature], know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!”” Luke 11:9-13 AMP

Martha, Martha

I was reflecting on this scripture this morning and the life lesson that should be reviewed yearly as our responsibilities and accountabilities increase.

We see the story of Martha who the scripture says “Martha welcomed Him [Jesus] into her home.” She was a gracious and attentive host – having casual conversations with Christ.

Meanwhile, Mary, her sister “seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching.”

Their relationship mattered to Jesus as the scripture tells us in the book of John: “It was the Mary who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, “Lord, he [our brother and Your friend] whom You love is sick.” Now Jesus loved and was concerned about Martha, her sister and Lazarus [and considered them dear friends].” John 11:2-3, 5 AMP

Relationships like this are built through the measuring stick of “time” and it is clear that Mary, Martha and Lazarus had a viable relationship with Christ which was built by spending time with Him.

The warning in the story for us as leaders is that Martha “was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities..”

Martha felt frustrated and overwhelmed because she had a perceived need for assistance from Mary to just “keep up”! She asked the Lord to convince her sister to assist but was provided a heavenly response instead.

The Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”

That is so powerful. No greater love is this.

Today, I leave you with these thoughts to consider:

“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.

And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].” Philippians 4:6-7 AMP

Lastly, fullness of joy comes when we stay in gods presence (psalms 16:11) and like Mary, let us sit at the feet of Jesus and learn of Him. He says:

““Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation].

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls.

For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”” Matthew 11:28-30

“Now while they were on their way, Jesus entered a village [called Bethany], and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.

She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching.

But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.”

But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”” Luke 10:38-42 AMP

Go and Do Likewise

I was reading this scripture this morning and was reflecting on just how easy we, as leaders, can allow ourselves to get so busy that we loose, for a moment or permanently, the ability to be touched by the infirmities of others.

I suspect that each of us have had a moment where we were so focused on our needs, goals and objectives that we missed taking the time to “really see” the needs of someone else.

Our response may be because we perceive the risk of “their ask” may be more than we think we can accommodate or maybe, we just do not feel like being “other centered” in that moment.

As leaders, we are learning that being a follower of Christ is not always convenient and often reveals our hidden heart issues.

We then see in this example, how the Good Samaritan was “moved with pity and sympathy [for him]”.

We are also reminded that: “But by the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not [found to be] for nothing (fruitless and without effect). In fact, I worked harder than all of them [the apostles], though it was not really I, but the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God which was with me.” 1 Corinthians 15:10 AMPC

It is easy to become overwhelmed, struggle to find balance, and to not live up to the standard set by the Word of God: “Contribute to the needs of God’s people [sharing in the necessities of the saints]; pursue the practice of hospitality.” Romans 12:13 AMPC

We must strive daily to take on and have the mind of Christ: “For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. [Isa. 40:13.]” 1 Corinthians 2:16 AMPC

“All things are legitimate [permissible–and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. Let no one then seek his own good and advantage and profit, but [rather] each one of the other [let him seek the welfare of his neighbor].” 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 AMPC

We are encouraged and constantly being prepared to touch life at many touch points, being less structured so that we can “connect” with others. The Bible reminds us: “Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.” Romans 8:1-2 AMP

We are God’s workmanship, His ambassadors and are the salt of the earth. We have been given dominion and authority over the whole earth. Because of Christ, we have a river of living water to be a blessing to mankind showing pity and mercy. In Jesus Name, Amen

Like the Good Samaritan, let us Go and do likewise!

Now by coincidence a certain priest was going down along that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

A Levite likewise came down to the place and saw him, and passed by on the other side [of the road].

But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled along, came down to where he was; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity and sympathy [for him], And went to him and dressed his wounds, pouring on [them] oil and wine.

Then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii [two day’s wages] and gave [them] to the innkeeper, saying, Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I [myself] will repay you when I return.

Your Treasure

I was reflecting on this scripture this morning and my mind began to reflect on the most valuable treasure we have – time.

Each of us are blessed to have 168 each week to invest our time into the things that matter most to us and is a tell of what we truly value.

Sometimes our actions are in conflict with what we verbally or mentally say are important.

Time is our scoreboard of life.

As leaders, we all search for meaning and purpose in life as it would seem futile to achieve much and to realize all is vanity.

To help us try and stay on the right track to meaning, the bible urges us to: “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” Matthew 6:33 AMP

It is admirable to want our lives to count for something and they do!

We can be encouraged and validated as the scripture says: “For it is He] Who delivered and saved us and called us with a calling in itself holy and leading to holiness [to a life of consecration, a vocation of holiness]; [He did it] not because of anything of merit that we have done, but because of and to further His own purpose and grace (unmerited favor) which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began [eternal ages ago].”

2 Timothy 1:9 AMPC

As leaders, we face a constant struggle and tension with “how do we set our hearts to invest” as time is the currency of our lives.

If we feel the need to redeem the time, we can walk in wisdom. Colossians 4:5 KJV

Next, we can leverage the strategy that our Daily Activity Determines Our Destiny!

When we evaluate our calendars over the past week, how did we allocate our 168 hours?

What will be revealed is what we truly value today. We can ask ourselves a couple of questions:

⁃ Are we pleased with what we saw?

⁃ Does it represent the best that life offers?

⁃ Is there sufficient preplanned time with those we love?

⁃ What are our time allocations today?

⁃ What should our time allocations be?

This can be a hard fact to accept; however, congratulations, we now have the foundations for a plan and there is hope in the Word:

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With people [as far as it depends on them] it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””

Matthew 19:26 AMP

We can be assured that:

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMPC

And

“I know that whatever God does, it endures forever; nothing can be added to it nor anything taken from it. And God does it so that men will [reverently] fear Him [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is]. [Ps. 19:9; James 1:17.]” Ecclesiastes 3:14 AMPC

Amen

Lastly, with focused effort, we can achieve calendar alignment with our values.

“TO EVERYTHING there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1 AMPC

Be Careful therefore How You Listen

I was reflecting on these passages and what really stuck with me is how we as leaders, must continue to prepare and nurture our soil if we want to continue to grow with God.

Nothing stands still and we must show continuous engagement with actions to continue to grow with Christ.

Since we desire the unlimited wisdom supply that comes from above, there is a demand of meaningful engagement and willful change – on our behalf.

As leaders, we desire an unlimited harvest but do we invest daily the time, energy and attention to study, ponder and meditate on the seeds of the Word while sowing them into our soil: our minds, wills, emotions and spirit?

Quality time invested in shaping our faith visions brings tangible clarity and is time well spent.

Our visions are becoming so real that we already see and possess them in our minds and hearts?

This relationship requires engagement, communication, patience, tenderness, listening, hearing, empathy, and connection to grow and thrive.

So true this is in the spiritual realm that “For to him who has [spiritual knowledge] will more be given; and from him who does not have [spiritual knowledge], even what he thinks and guesses and supposes that he has will be taken away.”

There is a risk of deterioration and loss of ground.

Not for us as I decree that the blood of Jesus covers us, our households and our visions. In Jesus Name Amen

Be careful therefore how you listen. For to him who has [spiritual knowledge] will more be given; and from him who does not have [spiritual knowledge], even what he thinks and guesses and supposes that he has will be taken away.”

But Christ is Real!

I was just reading this morning and came across this scripture and I could not help but reflect on the sheer magnitude of this statement. OMG. My heart was just flooded with emotions of gratitude.

As leaders, there is one personal journey question that only you can answer: How real is Christ to you, today?

Wherever we are on the continuum, the meer fact that we are reading this question, it shows that we are still on this growth journey.

Sometimes we get tossed to and fro in our minds and with the many challenges of life. But, it is helpful to return to our home base of certainty and comfort – Christ.

Remembering the scriptures that say: “For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows [present] grace and favor and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Today is a good day to just enter into his presence, just adore him, and to lay all of our cares/sins at the feet of Jesus at the cross. Christ is over every power and authority.

Hosanna in the highest!”

Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life.

Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.

Don’t let anyone fool you by using senseless arguments. These arguments may sound wise, but they are only human teachings.

They come from the powers of this world and not from Christ.

God lives fully in Christ. And you are fully grown because you belong to Christ, who is over every power and authority.

Christ has also taken away your selfish desires, just as circumcision removes flesh from the body.

And when you were baptized, it was the same as being buried with Christ. Then you were raised to life because you had faith in the power of God, who raised Christ from death.

You were dead, because you were sinful and were not God’s people.

But God let Christ make you alive, when he forgave all our sins.

God wiped out the charges that were against us for disobeying the Law of Moses. He took them away and nailed them to the cross. There Christ defeated all powers and forces.

He let the whole world see them being led away as prisoners when he celebrated his victory.

Don’t let anyone tell you what you must eat or drink. Don’t let them say you must celebrate the New Moon festival, the Sabbath, or any other festival.

These things are only a shadow of what was to come. But Christ is real!”

Surely I will be with you

When I was reflecting on this passage my mind was just thinking about the continuous grace of God. Early in our growth journey, we may make decisions that we know or later learn are contrary to what is the truth. Ideally, we grow, mature and arrive at the place where more of our decisions are based on and in alignment with the Word as growth is a continuous process. But the reality is that decisions have consequences (mental, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual).

As leaders, we may experience a season as a result of decisions where we have a sense of bewilderment, loss and are kindling an underlying desire for more of God like Gideon who summed it up well when he asked “where are all His wondrous works of which our fathers told us?”

I believe that at these moments, breakthrough, revelation and flow can occur because we desire to get to and remain at a place of hunger and thirst for the kingdom and its righteousness- despite how we are perceived, how we feel and ultimately the price we have to pay.

Arriving at that place where all we want is God’s presence and its manifestation in our lives and situation is vital as we press forward toward our assignment and associated battles. In our own strengths, we are not able to prevail in battle; however, with God’s promise that “Surely I will be with you, and you shall smite” the enemy- victory is assured.

In this season, it is my prayer that you will be encouraged, renewed and reenergized for Christ!

And Gideon said to him, O sir, if the Lord is with us, why is all this befallen us? And where are all His wondrous works of which our fathers told us, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? But now the Lord has forsaken us and given us into the hand of Midian.

The Lord turned to him and said, Go in this your might, and you shall save Israel from the hand of Midian.

Have I not sent you?

Gideon said to Him, Oh Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Behold, my clan is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

The Lord said to him, Surely I will be with you, and you shall smite the Midianites as one man.”

Honor the Lord with your wealth

I was reflecting on the scripture and the concept of honoring God with my wealth just truly got a hold of me and it would not let me go.

I have heard and read about bringing the tithe into the storehouse which brings ridiculous blessings but for some reason, I never really saw this part about honoring the Lord with my wealth.

When, not if

The scripture really jumped out at me as I realized that there is a assumed outcome that we do and will have wealth to have the choice to honor him or not. OMG

In a world that dwells on scarcity and lack, we have a supposed and assumed outcome of being in a place of wealth and abundance to build and grow the Kingdom of God.

What is that abundance? One of the translations defines wealth as: your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors]. Righteous labors in the home, church, community, and marketplace from them we have all sufficiency in all things – wealth and capital.

As leaders, our righteous labor does make a difference wherever we are placed. As we focus on being a light in darkness and possessing the land, the glory of the Lord will shine on us that men should see our good works and the father will be glorified.

Lastly, we must pray and ask for wisdom and guidance as it relates to our capital (our time, talents and our treasures) and how we should invest them so that God is honored.

Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord…?

When I was reflecting on this passage, I was reminded of the power of relationships in that the most fruitful relationships require giving of ourselves to benefit someone who we value highly.

Not so much the case with Christ in that if we give of ourselves (trust), we will reap a better version of ourselves if we would just obey (or simply take action on his guidance).

As leaders, one of the most frustrating challenges is when those whom we are selected to lead may ask for advise or solutions to their challenges and then they take actions which are contrary to the guidance. When they receive unexpected results, they are upset.

I am sure that I have frustrated a many mentors and managers because of such behaviors. Though my intentions may have been honorable, my execution may have been flawed.

“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not practice what I tell you?”

Fair question. Why don’t we practice what we are told? Here are a few ideas:

⁃ Lack of a decision to commit to authority and to trust the person or the process.

⁃ Lack of Discipline. We make a decision to commit but we achieve consistently inconsistent outcomes.

⁃ Lack of know how and the resolve to press through being imperfect until achieving mastery.

⁃ Not counting up the cost. It was simply harder than we thought. Now what?

“Now thanks be unto God, who always causeth us to triumph in Christ and who maketh manifest through us the savor of His knowledge in every place.”

We have an opportunity to begin again,today, to lay a solid and secure foundation in Christ.

He is always ready to receive us.
